ORLEANS TAEKWONDO
The curriculum offered by Orleans Taekwondo Academy is based on the World Taekwondo (WT) standards, it’s the olympic style of Taekwondo. Our school is committed to teaching focus, confidence, and respect through the martial arts of Taekwondo. Our team of instructors knows the impact a good teacher can have on a student. Our instructors are patient and enthusiastic and teach with a perfect blend of discipline and fun.
Taekwondo is practiced a minimum of twice a week while students progress from their white belts to their red belt (with black stripe). Classes typically run 45 minutes with time split between warm-up, drills, and individual skills training with an instructor.
Once a student achieves their red belt (with black stripe) they begin training for their black belt, with training continuing through nine additional ranks called “Dans”.
WTF Taekwondo is an Olympic recognized sport with competitions held at local, provincial, national, and international levels. Taekwondo has two competitive specialties: Poomsae (patterns), which focuses on precision of technique, and sparring, which puts your skills directly up against an opponent. Orleans Taekwondo students have competed and regularly place at all competitive levels in both specialties.
Taekwondo is the Korean martial art developed nearly two thousand years ago. The name “Taekwondo” translates literally to the way of kicking feet and striking hands.
“Tae” refers to feet or lower body, everything below the belt, particularly the legs for running, jumping, strength, power, spinning, and kicking.
“Kwon” refers to the torso and is concerned with everything done with the arms and hands for striking and blocking.
“Do” means the way and refers to the mind which in turn governs the body.
Together, “Tae, Kwon & Do” form a harmony of mind and body. Today, it is practiced by millions of people worldwide and is one of only two martial art styles to be recognized by the International Olympic Committee as an official sport at the Olympic Games.
